Software: DaVinci Resolve 17 and Adobe AfterEffects

My goal for this project was to create something out of nothing.

I wanted to improve my skills in DaVinci Resolve and working with cinema-quality footage. I went to Blackmagic Design’s website to find some sample LOG footage from their cinema cameras and picked shots to begin testing.

The color grade I chose for this was a semi-grungy mix of 35mm and 16mm film to fit the refined, yet raw quality of the music track. The same goes for the title screen that was created in AfterEffects. I felt the 70s/80s-styled glowing text really fit with the aesthetic of the song.

I had a blast working on this mini-project and look forward to diving down this rabbit hole some more.

This client’s goal was to spread awareness about the services their center currently provides as well as encourage their members to donate to the completion of their center’s expansion.

This project exceeded the client’s expectation and resulted in exceeding their donation goal by over 46%.

The idea for this project came about when prompted by my Senior Editor to come up with some ideas to expand the company’s product lines and to help our clients during the pandemic.

This is a mixture of ideas I came up with:

1) Have a department dedicated to helping mid-sized and Rochester-based businesses.

2) Create high-quality videos using primarily stock footage due to the videographers we work with not being able to be on the road.

I chose the Little Theatre because as a movie buff, it was heartbreaking to see many theaters close permanently across the nation. The Little has been a staple in the Rochester community for nearly 100 years and I wanted to create something that could help them during uncertain times.

For this project I was the whole production team. I wrote the script, created the storyboard, and executed the edit. I utilized the help of our in-house voiceover artist as well as our in-house videographer who was close to the theatre.

This video was winner of Video of the Month. It was also in the running for Video of the Year but the pandemic happened and the results were inconclusive.

When I looked at the shot list and storyboard I thought this was going to be another ordinary video. However, when I looked at the footage I knew I was wrong. When I saw the aesthetic of the business and the feeling of nostalgia it emitted, I was inspired to really lean in to that vintage 80s/90s feel.

Heads Up. Keep you eye on the prize. Just do it. All sayings synonymous with winning and success. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped out, this video couldn't have been done without you. I really had a great time putting this together and hopefully more is to come!

The inspiration for this project came from hearing the Stevie Wonder track while I was working on another project. I just thought the song really had a great summer feel to it and thought it would sound great over a Nike ad. With that in mind, I asked a few of my friends if they wanted to be in a video and they graciously obliged. The rest is history.

David Cohen is a 4th year Industrial Design major who has applied his love for sneakers to his major. He has had the opportunity to work with streetwear mogul, John Geiger, and even got to meet one of his inspirations (and RIT alum) Eric Avar who outfitted NBA great Kobe Bryant throughout his career.

This is a project from a series I implemented as social media manager for RIT’s Behind the Bricks. When I took over they were doing Tigers of RIT, which is like Humans of New York, but it was in written form. I thought it would be more impactful if the viewer actually heard what the highlighted student had to say.

This particular one highlights, David Cohen, who is a great person with an even greater mind. We both share a love for sneakers and this was an amazing project to collaborate on. Working on this interview-style video allowed me to learn that I am good at making people feel comfortable on camera as well as asking engaging and thoughtful questions, turning the interview into a conversation as opposed to just a Q&A.

This last is one of the many pieces to a larger project that I am working on. Over the summer of 2018 my friend and frequent collaborator, Alex, and I went on a cross-country road trip to the last Blockbuster in the United States. It was like a last hoorah before we go from being “children” to adults as we were both finishing college the following semester.

This intentionally rough-around-the-edges video serves a trailer to the full-length feature we are working on and encapsulates the fast-paced life we lived while using visuals and sound to give the viewer a small window to view our experience through.
