Software: DaVinci Resolve 17 and Adobe AfterEffects
My goal for this project was to create something out of nothing.
I wanted to improve my skills in DaVinci Resolve and working with cinema-quality footage. I went to Blackmagic Design’s website to find some sample LOG footage from their cinema cameras and picked shots to begin testing.
The color grade I chose for this was a semi-grungy mix of 35mm and 16mm film to fit the refined, yet raw quality of the music track. The same goes for the title screen that was created in AfterEffects. I felt the 70s/80s-styled glowing text really fit with the aesthetic of the song.
I had a blast working on this mini-project and look forward to diving down this rabbit hole some more.

The idea for this project came about when prompted by my Senior Editor to come up with some ideas to expand the company’s product lines and to help our clients during the pandemic.
This is a mixture of ideas I came up with:
1) Have a department dedicated to helping mid-sized and Rochester-based businesses.
2) Create high-quality videos using primarily stock footage due to the videographers we work with not being able to be on the road.
I chose the Little Theatre because as a movie buff, it was heartbreaking to see many theaters close permanently across the nation. The Little has been a staple in the Rochester community for nearly 100 years and I wanted to create something that could help them during uncertain times.
For this project, I was the whole production team. I wrote the script, created the storyboard, and executed the edit. I utilized the help of our in-house voiceover artist as well as our in-house videographer who was close to the theatre.

This video was the winner of Video of the Month. It was also in the running for Video of the Year but the pandemic happened and the results were inconclusive.
When I looked at the shot list and storyboard I thought this was going to be another ordinary video. However, when I looked at the footage I knew I was wrong. When I saw the aesthetic of the business and the feeling of nostalgia it emitted, I was inspired to really lean into that vintage 80s/90s feel.

This client’s goal was to spread awareness about the services their center currently provides as well as encourage their members to donate to the completion of their center’s expansion.
This project exceeded the client’s expectations and resulted in exceeding their donation goal by over 46%.
